How Much Does Google Ads Management Cost In The UK?

What Google Ads management really costs in the UK: average package prices by provider, how agencies charge, and how much ad spend you need for the fee to make sense.

How Much Does Google Ads Management Cost In The UK?

Google Ads management in the UK costs from around £300 a month with a freelancer to £15,000+ with an enterprise agency. Most small and medium businesses pay £500 to £3,000 a month, on top of what they pay Google for clicks.

That headline range is too wide to budget from. It also hides the three numbers that decide whether a quote is good value: how the fee is calculated, what it costs as a share of your ad spend, and what the setup costs before your first click.

This guide breaks down average Google Ads management packages at each level, the pricing models UK agencies use, and how much ad spend you need for the fee to make sense. We have managed Google Ads for over 20 years, mostly for law firms, property developers and financial services firms.

What is the difference between Google Ads spend and management fees?

Google Ads spend is what you pay Google for clicks. The management fee is what you pay an agency or freelancer to build and run the account. You pay both, and they should always appear as separate lines on a quote.

  • Ad spend. Billed by Google, ideally straight to your own card or invoice. You set the budget, and Google charges per click.
  • Management fee. Paid to the agency for keyword research, campaign builds, bid strategy, ad testing, tracking and reporting.

Google does not charge anything to manage your own account. The management fee pays for expertise and time, so the real question is how many hours a month the fee buys.

For example, £3,000 a month in Google Ads spend plus a £750 management fee is £3,750 a month in total (Herd Marketing, 2026). Budget for the total, not just the fee.

How much do Google Ads management packages cost?

Google Ads management packages range from £300 a month for a freelancer to £15,000+ for an enterprise agency. Price follows who manages the account and how complex it is:

Provider Typical monthly fee What to expect
Freelancer £300 to £1,000 One person, hands on. Senior consultants charge £1,200 to £2,500
Small agency £500 to £1,500 Several publish starting prices of around £500
Mid market agency £1,500 to £5,000 Usually requires £2,000 to £5,000 a month in ad spend
Enterprise agency £4,000 to £15,000+ Large or multi market accounts with senior teams

Treat these as guides, not quotes. As Mind the Shop puts it, no UK wide survey of PPC fees exists. A handful of agencies publish their own prices, such as Herd Marketing from £750 a month and Social Surge at a flat £1,650 a month.

What should a Google Ads management package include?

Whatever the price, a Google Ads management package should cover:

  • Keyword research, match type strategy and campaign structure built around high intent searches
  • Conversion tracking for forms and calls, including enhanced conversions, tested before launch
  • Responsive search ads written and tested against each other
  • Weekly search term reviews and negative keyword management
  • Bid strategy management against cost per lead, not cost per click
  • Performance Max or Shopping only where conversion data supports it
  • A monthly report and review call

If a quote does not say which of these are included, ask before you sign.

How do agencies price Google Ads management?

UK agencies use four main pricing models for Google Ads management:

Pricing model Typical UK cost Best suited to Watch out for
Flat monthly fee £750 to £3,000+ Stable budgets Unclear scope
% of ad spend 10% to 20% (min £300 to £500) Growing Budgets Fee rises with spend, not results
Hybrid £500 to £1,500 + 5% to 10% Larger accounts Harder to compare
Hourly £100 to £200 an hour Audits and one off fixes Hours can overrun

Flat fees are the most predictable. They also pay the agency to make your budget work harder rather than to spend more of it. For fees across all paid platforms, see our guide to how much PPC management costs in the UK.

What percentage of ad spend should Google Ads management cost?

Most UK agencies charge 10% to 20% of ad spend, and the percentage falls as budgets grow. Below £1,000 a month in spend, many agencies will not offer a percentage deal at all.

Monthly ad spend Typical % of spend Fee at that rate
£1,500 to £5,000 10% to 20% £150 to £1,000
£5,000 to £10,000 10% to 15% £500 to £1,500
£10,000+ 10% to 12% £1,000+

Source: Nettonic, 2026.

On a £4,000 monthly budget at 15%, the fee is £600, or £4,600 a month all in.

Use the same test on flat fees. Once management costs more than 25% to 30% of your ad spend, the numbers get hard to make work (Social Surge, 2026). A £1,500 monthly fee needs at least £5,000 to £6,000 of ad spend behind it. Against £1,500 of spend, the same fee is 100% overhead.

Do Google Ads agencies charge a setup fee?

Many do. Setup fees for Google Ads commonly run from £250 to £1,500 as a single upfront payment (Mind the Shop, 2026).

Setup should cover the account structure, keyword and negative keyword lists, ad copy, bid strategy, and conversion tracking through GA4 and Google Tag Manager. It is where most Google Ads accounts are won or lost. If tracking is wrong at launch, Google’s automated bidding learns from bad data and spends accordingly.

Ask for the setup scope in writing. A fee that covers “campaign creation” but not conversion tracking is a warning sign.

How much ad spend do you need for Google Ads management to be worth it?

We recommend a minimum of £2,000 a month in Google Ads spend for small businesses. Many agencies set their own minimum at £1,000 to £2,000 (Nettonic, 2026), and mid market agencies often ask for £2,000 to £5,000.

Your sector changes the number. Across the legal campaigns we manage, average CPCs run from £14.64 for property disputes to £98.67 for work accident claims. At a 20% landing page conversion rate, that is £73 to £493 per lead.

A £2,000 budget buys around 136 property dispute clicks. The same budget buys around 20 work accident clicks. Same spend, very different volume.

The simplest way to set a budget is to work back from leads. If you need 20 enquiries a month and each lead costs £100, your Google Ads budget is £2,000, plus management.

What are the warning signs in a Google Ads management quote?

A cheap quote and a good quote can look the same on paper. These are the signs to look for:

  • Long lock ins. A 12 month contract with penalties for leaving early is a red flag (TLC Ads, 2026). A clear notice period is fair.
  • Agency owned accounts. You should own the Google Ads account and all of its data.
  • Hidden markups. Ad spend should be billed by Google, not passed through the agency with a margin added.
  • No stated hours. If the agency cannot say who manages the account and for how long each month, assume very little.
  • Click based reporting. Reports should show cost per lead and cost per client, not just clicks and impressions.
